Thanks. The annoying thing about having the 1894 date on our badge is that it takes away a crucial 14 years of our history. I'm going to be arguing that football started much later than is generally believed, and that City were part of its first wave.

Indeed ! I have always thought that the reason city use 1894 is because Ardwick were actually dissolved as a club ? Is that correct or have I dreamt it ?? Of course our neighbours over the border love to claim 1878 as the Start of them but newton heath actually played cricket that year with the football bit only starting about a year later !

I've published a piece about the events of 1894. My view is that the date represents the creation of a new ownership structure rather than a new club.

I will be going into United's formation as part of the serialization. The evidence actually points to them being created in 1880.
