I assume the darwen football club that exists today is the same one from way back ? Fascinating insight into British life 140 years ago .looking forward to the next one
The original club, Darwen FC, was wound up in May 2009. However, a club called AFC Darwen was created that same month. I'm not sure if the same people were involved, but it does appear to be an 1894 type of situation.
If you're interested in the social history surrounding Darwen's Cup exploits I'd recommend 'Underdogs: The Unlikely Story of Football's First FA Cup Heroes' by Keith Dewhurst.
